SUMMARY:NERUCA's Identify\, Isolate\, Inform: H5N1 Avian Flu Preparedness for Urgent Care
DESCRIPTION:Is your urgent care center ready if a patient walks in with symptoms of avian flu? This one-hour preparedness webinar will walk your team through everything you need to know — from recognizing H5N1 risk factors to implementing the right infection control steps in real time. Developed in partnership with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and tailored specifically for the urgent care setting\, this session is the first step in your site’s participation in the NYC H5N1 Mystery Patient Drill program. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Describe the clinical presentation and epidemiological risk factors associated with Avian Influenza (H5N1) in the urgent care setting.\n2. Apply the Identify\, Isolate\, and Inform (III) framework to triage and manage a patient presenting with symptoms consistent with a novel infectious illness.\n3. Identify key infection control measures — including source control\, appropriate PPE\, and patient isolation protocols — relevant to urgent care operations.\n4. Outline their site’s notification and escalation procedures when a suspected infectious disease case is identified.\n5. Recognize gaps in current preparedness and articulate at least one action step to strengthen their site’s readiness ahead of the Mystery Patient Drill.

SUMMARY:Effective Messaging: An Emergency Management Webinar for NYC Home Care Providers
DESCRIPTION:A free Emergency Management Webinar for the NYC Home Care Sector As determined in the NYC Home Care Emergency Management Assessment Surveys conducted by HCP and HCA in 2021 and 2022 under a grant funded by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR)\, and administered by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH)\, Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR)\, emergency communications are a general area of concern for home care providers. To address that gap\, this session will highlight the importance of effective messaging for staff and patients before\, during\, and after an incident. Laura Ehrich\, HCP’s Vice President of Operations\, will provide the topic overview. \nAttendees will then hear from warnings expert Dr. Michele Wood\, PhD\, Professor and Chair at California State University\, Fullerton Department of Public Health. Dr. Wood is a risk communication scholar with expertise in alerts and warnings. She will review the social psychology of alerts and warnings\, provide examples of “bad messaging”\, and share the critical elements of an effective warning message in an emergency management context. This session is designed to help home care agencies of all sizes come away equipped with evidence-based guidance to improve their hazard and warning messages and better motivate people to take protective action. \nThe session will include time for Q&A. \nThis is certain to be a lively session! Don’t miss out on this valuable opportunity.
